“Man or machine: the choice is yours”. The planetary cycles of 2026–2032 read through the lens of Kali Yuga.

This article is a companion to Kali Yuga and the Age of Machines: What the Bhagavata Purana Teaches About Human Decline, which studies what the scriptures actually say about Kali Yuga. Here I give my own Medinī Jyotiṣa (mundane astrology) reading of the planetary transits of 2020–2032. It is an astrological interpretation, offered for reflection, not a statement of what scripture says.

When I first wrote about Kali Yuga as “the advance age of machines” in March 2018, the “advanced age of machines” was still a prophecy. I wrote about virtual gratification of the senses, falling fertility, babies raised by machines, seasons that no longer behave like seasons, and an age ruled by Rahu, the mega-mind machine. Eight years later, many of these are measurable facts. So in this revision I have done what a Medinī Jyotiṣī should do: put the Purāṇic symptoms of Kali beside the actual planetary transits, look back at 2020–2026, and give my reading of what the sky shows from 2026 to 2032.

Method. All positions below are sidereal (Lahiri ayanāṃśa), calculated with an astronomical ephemeris, with the mean nodes for Rahu and Ketu. Dates are in IST and can differ by a day from other almanacs, depending on the ayanāṃśa and node used. I give the weight to the slow planets (Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu–Ketu, and the outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto), because in mundane astrology they shape eras rather than days.

In this expanded edition (October 2026) I have added five further lines of analysis: Jupiter’s atichāra (fast motion), the cycles of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto with their historical precedents, India’s own 1947 chart and its Mars mahādaśā, the Kūrma Chakra of Varāhamihira, and the Sarvatobhadra Chakra. A final section brings them together on the questions readers ask most: war, catastrophe and civil unrest.

Kali Yuga Planetary Transits 2026–2032

Looking back: what the sky showed in 2020–2026

  • The six-planet conjunction of 25–26 December 2019 in Sagittarius, with Ketu and a solar eclipse in Mūla, opened the decade. I wrote then that it would shake the world order (read the 2019 analysis). Within weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic had begun.
  • The Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in December 2020, in Capricorn, began a new 20-year cycle in Saturn’s earth sign: the sign of governments, labour, systems and machines (see the 2020 predictions). Since then, governance, money and work have moved onto digital platforms at a speed no one predicted.
  • Saturn entered Aquarius in January 2023. Aquarius is Saturn’s own air sign of networks and collective intelligence, and Saturn moved through Śatabhiṣā, the hundred-healer star of Varuṇa. This was the year generative artificial intelligence reached the general public: machines that write, speak and paint. This is exactly the “mega-mind machine age” my 2018 article spoke of.
  • Measurable symptoms. In 2018 I wrote that fertility would fall and that “seasons will no longer be like normal”. Since then, India’s total fertility rate has fallen below replacement level, to 2.0 (NFHS-5, 2019–21). 2024 became the first calendar year in which the global average temperature exceeded 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels (Copernicus). The Bhāgavatam says the citizens “will suffer greatly from cold, wind, heat, rain and snow” (SB 12.2.10). That is no longer only scripture.
  • Saturn joined Neptune in Pisces in February 2026. This roughly 36-year meeting last took place in 1989, the year the Berlin Wall fell. In Pisces, the sign of dissolution, it dissolves the line between the real and the unreal. This is the era of synthetic images, cloned voices and virtual companions, “the advanced age of Rahu when you will live only in your virtual reality”, as I wrote in 2018.
  • The triple conjunction of 2020. Saturn met Pluto on 12 January 2020, Jupiter met Pluto three times (April, June and November 2020), and Jupiter met Saturn on 21 December 2020, all in the last degrees of Sagittarius and the first of Capricorn, in Uttarāṣāḍhā. The previous Saturn–Pluto conjunction fell on 11 August 1947, four days before India’s independence.
  • Saturn square Uranus, 2021 (exact in February, June and December), Saturn in Śravaṇa against Uranus in Aśvinī and Bharaṇī: the clash of old structures with sudden change that marked the year of the Delta wave and the global supply shock.

Atichārī Jupiter: why Guru has been racing through the signs

Jupiter normally spends about a year in each sign. The Jovian year (Bārhaspatya saṁvatsara) is about 361 days. When Jupiter moves faster than its mean pace and enters the next sign ahead of time, it is called atichārī, “running ahead”. Usually it then turns retrograde and falls back into the sign it left, so in a single year it touches three signs instead of one or two.

What the tradition says. The muhūrta texts treat fast-moving Jupiter as a time unfit for sacred rites. One traditional rule says that when Jupiter “enters accelerated motion and exits the sign”, the year is unfit for sacred rituals. In mundane astrology, Jupiter is dharma, law, teachers, wealth and good governance. When Guru runs ahead of his own measure, these lose their steadiness: decisions are hasty, institutions overreach, and money and faith move faster than wisdom. Popular writers today link Jupiter’s fast transit of 2025–2032 with war and recession. I would put it more carefully: atichāra does not cause war by itself, but it removes the stabilising hand of Jupiter at the very time Saturn and the outer planets are pressing hardest.

The record, calculated (sidereal, Lahiri):

Year Signs Jupiter touched Atichāra
2019 Scorpio → Sagittarius → Scorpio → Sagittarius Jump and fall back
2020 Sagittarius → Capricorn → Sagittarius → Capricorn Jump and fall back
2021 Capricorn → Aquarius → Capricorn → Aquarius Jump and fall back
2022–2024 One clean change each year Normal pace
2025 Taurus → Gemini → Cancer → Gemini Three signs. Only 157 days in Gemini before leaping into Cancer (19 Oct 2025): the sharpest atichāra of the period
2026 Gemini → Cancer → Leo Three signs
2027 Leo → Cancer → Leo → Virgo Three signs
2028 Virgo → Leo → Virgo → Libra Three signs
2029–2032 Libra/Virgo, Scorpio/Libra, Sagittarius/Scorpio, Capricorn/Sagittarius Jump and fall back every year
2033 Capricorn → Aquarius Normal pace returns

My reading. The two atichāra seasons tell their own story. The first, 2019–2021, coincides with the pandemic years. The second begins in 2025 and runs to 2032, the whole window of this article. Its most intense stretch, 2025–2028 with three signs a year, overlaps Jupiter’s gaṇḍānta (October 2026 – July 2027) and India’s Mars mahādaśā. In plain words: from 2025 to 2028 the world’s guardian of dharma is moving too fast to guard. That is when treaties, financial systems and moral authorities are most likely to fail under pressure.

October 2026 – mid-2027: Jupiter in gaṇḍānta and the echo of Maghā

Jupiter crosses from Cancer (water) into Leo (fire) on 1 November 2026. It stations retrograde on 14 December at Leo 2°47′, inside the gaṇḍānta knot, and slips back into Cancer on 25 January 2027 before re-entering Leo on 26 June 2027. In all, Jupiter stays in the gaṇḍānta zone from 9 October 2026 to 20 February 2027, and again from 5 June to 15 July 2027. I have written before about Jupiter’s gaṇḍānta in 2019. Then it was a few weeks; this time it is a season.

On 7 November 2026, Jupiter meets Ketu in Maghā, and Mars joins them in mid-November, opposite Rahu in Dhaniṣṭhā. The Bhāgavatam (SB 12.2.31) marks the start of Kali by the seven sages passing through Maghā. The Saptarṣi are the stars of the Great Bear, not planets, so this is not the same marker. But Maghā is the star of thrones, ancestors and royal lineage, and its lighting-up by Jupiter, Ketu and Mars is a symbolic echo worth noting.

My reading: November 2026 to February 2027 is a period of crises of legitimacy: rulers, dynasties, courts and old institutions are questioned. This is the Bhāgavatam’s “the kings will mostly be thieves” (SB 12.2.13) being tested in public. Mars with Ketu in Leo also warns of fires, explosions and sudden military flare-ups around mid-November 2026. On the positive side, Jupiter with Ketu turns some people sharply towards ancestors, pilgrimage and inner sādhanā.

Rahu in Capricorn, Ketu in Cancer (6 December 2026 – 24 June 2028). Rahu, the amplifier, enters Saturn’s earth sign. This is the clearest nodal signature of machines replacing human labour: automation of factories, mines, offices and government. Ketu, the separator, goes to Cancer, the sign of mother, home, food and feeling. Read this beside the symptoms the Bhāgavatam gives for Kali (discussed in detail here): family ties that “extend no further than the immediate bonds of marriage” (SB 12.2.14) and men who “will no longer protect their elderly parents” (SB 12.3.42). I expect 2027 to bring public debate on the loneliness of the elderly, falling birth rates, care homes and machine care. When Jupiter is exalted in Cancer with Ketu (February – April 2027), this will also bring a counter-movement back to home cooking, family and the protection of mothers.

Rahu meets Pluto in Śravaṇa (November 2027). Śravaṇa is the star of listening. Rahu (the machine) conjunct Pluto (hidden power) in the nakṣatra of the ear points to listening machines: surveillance, voice-cloning and systems that hear everything. Ketu at the same time sits in Puṣya, opposite.

Eclipses. The annular solar eclipse of 6 February 2027 falls in Dhaniṣṭhā, close to Rahu. The total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027, the longest total eclipse on land this century, falls in Puṣya, the very star the Bhāgavatam names for the coming of Satya-yuga. In my reading, an eclipse of Puṣya (the nourisher, ruled by Bṛhaspati) brings strain on food supply and food prices, and a darkening of genuine teachers, in the months that follow.

June 2027 – April 2030: Saturn debilitated in Aries

Saturn enters Aries on 3 June 2027, returns to Pisces on 21 October 2027, and re-enters Aries on 24 February 2028. Apart from a short visit to Taurus from 9 August to 6 October 2029, it stays in Aries until 18 April 2030. Saturn is debilitated in Aries: the planet of the common man, labour and patience sits in the sign of Mars, the planet of force.

History gives the pattern. Saturn was in sidereal Aries from April 1939 to 1942: the Second World War began in September 1939. It was there again from April 1998 to 2000: India’s Pokhran-II tests in May 1998 and the Kargil war of 1999 both fall in that stay. I do not say history repeats itself mechanically. But Saturn in Aries has repeatedly coincided with arms, nationalism and the testing of borders.

  • Mars opposite Saturn (29 August 2027) and Mars conjunct Saturn in Aśvinī (1 May 2028): the most sensitive windows, roughly two weeks either side, for military incidents, industrial accidents and labour unrest.
  • Saturn square Rahu–Ketu (29 March 2028) and Saturn square Pluto (exact in June 2028, November 2028 and March 2029): structural crises of state power, public debt and the use of force by governments: “princes, instead of protecting, will plunder their subjects” (Viṣṇu Purāṇa 6.1).
  • Saturn in Aśvinī and Bharaṇī. Aśvinī belongs to the Aśvinī Kumāras, the divine physicians. Saturn there (2027–28) points to medicine fused with machines: AI diagnosis, gene and cell technologies, and the first serious public debate about the artificial womb, the “babies born in machines” my 2018 article foresaw. Bharaṇī belongs to Yama, the lord of death and of birth. Saturn in Bharaṇī (June–November 2028, March–June 2029 and November 2029 – March 2030) puts birth and death themselves under law: ageing populations, end-of-life laws and population policy.

Rahu in Sagittarius, Ketu in Gemini (24 June 2028 – 12 January 2030). Rahu in the sign of Jupiter and dharma is the age of false teachers: “those who know nothing about religion will mount a high seat and presume to speak on religious principles” (SB 12.3.38). I expect a flood of machine-made scripture, digital gurus and spiritual content without a lineage. Ketu in Gemini brings disillusion with information itself: people stop believing what they read and see. Rahu squares Neptune on 31 March 2029, the peak of this confusion. The total lunar eclipse of 26 June 2029 falls almost exactly on the node (Mūla–Ārdrā axis): Mūla is the star of roots and uprooting, Ārdrā the star of Rudra’s storms. In my reading this is a marker for severe weather and for the uprooting of old belief systems.

2030 – 2031: the midpoint of the 2020 cycle and the peak of stress

Jupiter and Saturn met in December 2020. Ten years later they stand opposite each other, with five exact passes between December 2029 and October 2031. In Medinī Jyotiṣa, the opposition shows whether what was sown at the conjunction bears fruit or fails. The digital order of governance, money and work that began in 2020 reaches its test here.

Several heavy configurations cluster in this window:

  • Rahu enters Scorpio (12 January 2030) and Ketu enters Taurus. On 13 May 2030 Ketu meets Uranus in Taurus: sudden shocks in banking, land, agriculture and the price of food.
  • The annular solar eclipse of 1 June 2030 falls in Rohiṇī, the star of Prajāpati, of fertility and crops.
  • Jupiter conjunct Rahu (Guru–Cāṇḍāla yoga) in Anurādhā on 24 November 2030, followed the next day, 25 November, by a total solar eclipse in the same nakṣatra. Scorpio is the sign of hidden research, poisons and secret wealth. This is the one configuration in the whole period that I would mark for the corruption of wisdom: frauds in finance and research, biological risks, and teachers who betray their students.
  • Saturn conjunct Ketu in Kṛttikā (17 February 2031), opposite Rahu. Kṛttikā is the star of fire and the blade, and Taurus is the earth sign of food and land. The verse “harassed by famine and excessive taxes … struck by drought” (SB 12.2.9) describes this pattern: heat, fires, drought and disputes over land and water.

Saturn through Rohiṇī and the Śakaṭa-bhedana question. Saturn moves through Rohiṇī from July 2030 to March 2032. It is in the fourth pāda that the tradition warns about from 18 June to 16 July 2031, and briefly again from 5 January to 30 March 2032. As I explained in my article on Rohiṇī Śakaṭa-bhedana, the tradition from Daśaratha’s time links Saturn breaking the “cart” of Rohiṇī with a twelve-year famine. Astronomically, Rohiṇī’s cart (Aldebaran) lies about 5.5° south of the ecliptic. My calculation shows Saturn staying only 1.2°–2.1° south while it crosses Rohiṇī, and Saturn’s orbit, tilted only about 2.5°, can never reach 5.5° south. Saturn passes north of the cart; it does not pierce it. This is the astronomical truth behind the legend that Saturn “never” breaks Rohiṇī’s cart. So my reading for 2030–31 is serious agricultural stress and food inflation, but not the twelve-year famine of the śāstra. June–July 2031 is the window to watch for the monsoon.

July 2031 – 2032: Uranus enters Gemini and the Saturn–Uranus conjunction

If one configuration in this period deserves the name “Kali Yuga, the Advance Age of Machines”, it is this one. Uranus, the planet of invention and sudden change, enters Gemini on 7 July 2031, returns briefly to Taurus, and settles in Gemini from 22 April 2032. Rahu moves into Libra on 1 August 2031. Saturn enters Gemini on 31 May 2032. On 4 June 2032 Mars and Saturn conjoin at Gemini 0°, and on 18 June 2032 Saturn and Uranus conjoin in Mṛgaśirā.

Saturn–Uranus conjunctions come about every 45 years and mark the clash of structure with revolution. The last one, in 1988, came as personal computers spread and the Cold War ended; the World Wide Web was proposed in 1989. The one before, in 1942, came in the middle of the Second World War, the years that produced the first electronic computers. This time it falls in Gemini (Mithuna), the sign of the twins: the human being and his double. Mṛgaśirā is the searching deer, restless and never satisfied.

My reading: by 2032 the merger of human and machine stops being news and becomes ordinary life. Brain–computer interfaces, humanoid machines in homes and factories, and digital “twins” of people will be routine. Saturn there means law and structure: governments will be forced to write rules for machines as if they were a new class of citizens. Saturn is also the karaka of the worker, so the same years bring the hardest questions of employment. As I wrote in 2018, “man will himself become like an alien to other mankind.” Jupiter enters Capricorn, its sign of debilitation, on 6 March 2032. Wisdom is weak exactly when the machines are strong, so the ethical frame will lag behind the technology.

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto: the slow clocks of history

The classical texts know seven planets and the two nodes. Modern Medinī Jyotiṣa adds the three outer planets because their cycles line up so clearly with turning points in history. I treat them as the slowest hands of the clock. Saturn and Jupiter tell the year; Uranus, Neptune and Pluto tell the era.

Where they stand (sidereal): Pluto is in Capricorn for the whole period, in Uttarāṣāḍhā and then Śravaṇa. Neptune is in Pisces, in Uttara Bhādrapadā and then Revatī. Uranus moves through Taurus (Kṛttikā, Rohiṇī, Mṛgaśirā) and enters Gemini on 9 July 2031, settling there from 22 April 2032.

The cycles that matter, with their past. Every date below is calculated, and the historical events are a matter of record:

Cycle Earlier occurrences This time
Saturn conjunct Pluto (about 33–38 years): power, force, the breaking of an order Oct 1914 (the First World War had just begun); 11 Aug 1947, four days before India’s independence and Partition, in Cancer, the sign of India’s Moon; Nov 1982 12 Jan 2020, in Sagittarius: the pandemic. Its first square follows in Jun 2028 – Mar 2029 (Saturn in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn)
Saturn conjunct Neptune (about 36 years): dissolution of structures, ideologies and borders; epidemics Aug 1917, the Russian Revolution, followed by the 1918 influenza pandemic; Nov 1952; Mar 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Soviet order 20 Feb 2026, in Pisces
Saturn conjunct Uranus (about 45 years): old structures against new technology Jan 1897; May 1942 (the Second World War, the first computers); Feb 1988 (personal computing, the end of the Cold War) 28 Jun 2032, in Gemini, Mṛgaśirā, joined by Mars
Uranus in sidereal Gemini (once in 84 years) 1863–1870, the end of the American Civil War; 1947–1954, the Partition of India, the Chinese Revolution, the Korean War Jul 2031 – Jul 2038
Jupiter conjunct Saturn (20 years) and Jupiter conjunct Pluto The 2020 cycle began on 21 Dec 2020 in Capricorn, after three Jupiter–Pluto conjunctions that year Jupiter opposite Saturn, Dec 2029 – Oct 2031: the test of everything begun in 2020

The softer aspects. Not everything is harsh. Uranus is in sextile to Neptune (2025–2027) and in trine to Pluto (2026–2028), and Neptune stays in sextile to Pluto through 2026–2032. These are aspects of technological and scientific breakthrough: new energy, new medicine, the AI revolution itself. They are why the age of machines arrives so quickly. The harsh cycles decide who controls it.

Two contacts that fall on India’s own chart.

  • Jupiter opposite Pluto, 20 July 2026, at Cancer 10° in Puṣya. That is India’s Moon nakṣatra, and Pluto stood in Śravaṇa at the time. In my reading, this was a confrontation between India’s people (the Moon) and concentrated power.
  • Pluto opposite India’s natal Saturn–Pluto conjunction (Cancer 20°, the 1947 conjunction itself), exact five times between April 2032 and December 2033. This is the half-way point of India’s own Pluto cycle since independence. In my reading, the questions settled in 1947 (borders, Partition, the shape of the Union) come up for review in 2032–33.

Rahu and Ketu on the outer planets. Rahu joins Pluto in Śravaṇa on 30 November 2027, the hidden power of the machine, as discussed above. Ketu joins Uranus in Rohiṇī on 20 May 2030, sudden rupture in the earth sign Taurus. Ketu joins Saturn in Kṛttikā on 26 February 2031, on India’s ascendant.

India’s own chart: the Mars mahādaśā of 2025–2032

For India I use the independence chart: 15 August 1947, 00:00 IST, New Delhi. It has Taurus ascendant at 7°43′ in Kṛttikā, with Rahu also in Kṛttikā on the ascendant. Five planets sit in Cancer in the 3rd house: the Moon in Puṣya (3°59′), Mercury in Puṣya, and Saturn, Venus and Pluto together in Āśleṣā, with the Sun at the end of Āśleṣā. Mars is in Gemini (Ārdrā) in the 2nd house, and Jupiter is in Libra (Viśākhā) in the 6th.

The daśā. India’s Vimśottarī Mars mahādaśā runs from 7 September 2025 to 7 September 2032, precisely the window of this article. For a Taurus ascendant, Mars rules the 7th house (open enemies, foreign relations, war) and the 12th (losses, expenditure, foreign lands). In the 2nd house, in Rudra’s nakṣatra Ārdrā, it speaks of the treasury, the national voice and sudden storms. A Mars daśā for India is a period of defence, borders and assertive foreign policy. After it, on 7 September 2032, comes the 18-year Rahu mahādaśā.

Antardaśā Dates My reading
Mars–Rahu 3 Feb 2026 – 22 Feb 2027 Sudden security events, information warfare, ambitious military posture
Mars–Jupiter 22 Feb 2027 – 29 Jan 2028 Diplomacy and law brought to bear on conflict; judiciary and constitution in focus
Mars–Saturn 29 Jan 2028 – 8 Mar 2029 The classical warrior combination. It coincides with the Mars–Saturn conjunction of 1 May 2028 and the Saturn–Pluto square. The most sensitive sub-period for armed conflict
Mars–Mercury 8 Mar 2029 – 6 Mar 2030 Trade, communication and economic negotiation; cyber and media fronts
Mars–Ketu 6 Mar 2030 – 2 Aug 2030 Short and sharp: sudden shocks, accidents, separatist pressure. Saturn reaches India’s ascendant in the same months
Mars–Venus 2 Aug 2030 – 2 Oct 2031 Economy, alliances, agriculture and women’s issues; Saturn and Ketu on the ascendant
Mars–Sun, Mars–Moon Oct 2031 – Sep 2032 Leadership and public mood; transition to the Rahu daśā

Transits over India’s chart (exact dates, calculated):

  • Uranus over India’s ascendant and natal Rahu: Rahu June 2025 – April 2026, the ascendant 31 May 2026, 14 January 2027 and 6 March 2027. Sudden change of national direction, technological leap, unexpected events.
  • Jupiter over the Cancer cluster: India’s Moon 22 June 2026, Mercury 6 August 2026, Saturn 6 September 2026, Venus 17 September 2026, Sun 17 October 2026 – 14 June 2027. Protective and expansive for the economy and the people.
  • Ketu over the same cluster: Sun January 2027, Venus April 2027, Saturn June 2027, Mercury October 2027, Moon 10 April 2028. A strain on the public mood and on the government’s hold. This is the separating, detaching influence passing over every one of India’s Cancer planets.
  • Pluto opposite India’s Mercury (March 2028 – January 2029): pressure on trade, communication and the youth.
  • Saturn over India’s natal Rahu and ascendant: 28 May 2030, then 18 June 2030, 28 January 2031 and 8 February 2031. Then Ketu on the ascendant on 8 March 2031, and the Saturn–Ketu conjunction on 26 February 2031 at Taurus 8°, the ascendant degree itself. This is the heaviest single transit to India’s chart in the whole period: a test of the nation’s body and its constitution.
  • Saturn’s Sāḍe Sātī for India (Moon in Cancer) begins when Saturn enters Gemini on 31 May 2032, the same summer the Rahu mahādaśā begins.

The Kūrma Chakra: where on the map the stress falls

Varāhamihira’s Bṛhat Saṁhitā (chapter 14, Kūrma-vibhāga) lays the land out like a tortoise: a centre and eight directions, each ruled by three nakṣatras. When malefics occupy a division’s nakṣatras, or an eclipse falls in them, the peoples of that division suffer. The same text (15.31) says a nakṣatra is harmed when the Sun and Saturn are together in it, when Mars passes through it, when a planet is retrograde in it, or when it is eclipsed.

The ancient names map only approximately onto today’s regions, so read the modern names as broad indications. Varāhamihira’s own lists already reach beyond India: Cīna (China), Yavana and Pahlava (the lands to the west), Hūṇa and Śaka (Central Asia).

Mars retrograde South-east Jan–Apr 2027; South Feb–May 2029; South-west Mar–Jun 2031

My reading of the Kūrma Chakra:

  • 2027–2029, the north-eastern frontier. Saturn, debilitated in Aries, sits in the division that names Kāśmīra, Darada and Cīna, the Sun meets it there three years running, and it retrogrades there three times. This is the clearest indication in the whole period of pressure on Kashmir and on the India–China frontier.
  • 2026–2030, the north-west and west. Rahu moves from the north-west (Punjab–Jammu, Rajasthan, the Afghan frontier) into the west (Punjab, Pakistan). This points to infiltration, terrorism, unrest in Pakistan and the Afghan belt, and disputes over water. The central total lunar eclipse in Mūla on 26 June 2029 falls in this western division.
  • 2027–2029, the East. Ketu in Puṣya and Punarvasu, with five eclipses in the eastern nakṣatras, including the great eclipse of 2 August 2027. This points to floods, cyclones and agitation in Bihar, Odisha, Bengal and Assam.
  • 2029–2032, the Centre: the most important finding. Ketu (2029–31) and then Saturn (2030–32) occupy the nakṣatras of Madhyadeśa: Kuru, Pāñcāla and Mathurā, today’s capital region and heartland. Five eclipses fall in the same division between June 2029 and May 2031, and the Sun joins Saturn there in Kṛttikā (May 2030) and Rohiṇī (June 2031). By Varāhamihira’s rules, this is affliction at the seat of power: political crisis, mass agitation, and strain between the Centre and the states. Kṛttikā is the star of fire, so the Sun and Saturn there in May 2030 also mark a severe heatwave and fire risk in north and central India.
  • 2030–2032, the south-west. Rahu in Svātī, Viśākhā and Anurādhā, with four eclipses, points to the Arabian Sea, Gujarat and Sindh, and West Asia: maritime tension, energy shocks and conflict in the Gulf region.

The Sarvatobhadra Chakra: vedha on India’s nakṣatras

The Sarvatobhadra Chakra, “auspicious on all sides”, is a 9×9 grid with the 28 nakṣatras (Abhijit included) around its border, and syllables, vowels, signs, tithis and weekdays inside. A planet standing in a nakṣatra casts vedha (piercing) along three lines across the grid: straight ahead to the opposite side, and along the two diagonals. Kṛttikā, for example, pierces Śravaṇa straight ahead, Bharaṇī behind and Viśākhā ahead. Which line is active depends on the planet’s motion. At normal speed it pierces straight ahead; when fast (atichārī), along the forward diagonal; when retrograde, along the backward diagonal. Rahu and Ketu, being always retrograde, are read on all three. Vedha by Saturn, Rahu, Ketu or Mars on a nation’s nakṣatra signals trouble for it; vedha by benefics protects.

For India I use three points:

  • Puṣya, the Moon’s nakṣatra in the 1947 chart: the people. Puṣya is pierced from Jyeṣṭhā (straight), Pūrva Phalgunī and Śatabhiṣā (diagonals).
  • Kṛttikā, the nakṣatra of India’s ascendant: the state itself. It is pierced from Śravaṇa, Viśākhā and Bharaṇī.
  • Mūla, the nakṣatra of the syllable bha in “Bhārata”: the name. It is pierced from Punarvasu, Citrā and Revatī.

A check against the recent past. Ketu stood in Mūla, India’s name-nakṣatra, from January to September 2020: the national lockdown and the Galwan clash with China. Saturn’s straight vedha from Śravaṇa fell on Kṛttikā, India’s ascendant nakṣatra, from 28 April to 24 May 2021, the deadliest weeks of the second COVID wave. Rahu then sat in Kṛttikā itself from November 2021 to June 2022. These matches are why I take the chakra seriously for the years ahead.

The vedha windows ahead (calculated day by day, malefics only):

Target Window Vedha
Mūla (the name) 27 Jul – 10 Oct 2026; 21 Oct – 25 Dec 2027 Saturn retrograde in Revatī; Mars in Punarvasu (Sep 2026) and in Mūla itself (Nov–Dec 2027)
Kṛttikā (the state) 11 Apr – 2 Dec 2027 Rahu in Śravaṇa
Puṣya (the people) 15 Aug 2027 – 23 Apr 2028 Ketu in Puṣya itself, two weeks after the 2 August 2027 eclipse in Puṣya; Mars adds vedha in February 2028
Mūla (the name) 23 Apr – 30 Dec 2028 Ketu in Punarvasu, with Mars joining in August
Kṛttikā (the state) Jun – Jul 2028, Mar – Jun 2029 Saturn, fast, in Bharaṇī
Mūla (the name) 5 May 2029 – 12 Jan 2030 Rahu in Mūla itself, Mars joining 28 Oct – 15 Nov 2029
Kṛttikā (the state) 28 Jun – 21 Nov 2029; 18 Mar – 7 Jul 2030; 12 Dec 2030 – 25 Mar 2031 Saturn in Kṛttikā itself. Mars joins it there 7–26 May 2030, and Ketu joins it from 24 Jan 2031
Puṣya (the people) 12 Jan – 20 Sep 2030 Rahu in Jyeṣṭhā (straight vedha); Mars in Puṣya 13 Aug – 3 Sep 2030
Kṛttikā (the state) 25 Mar – 3 Oct 2031; then to Jun 2032 Ketu in Kṛttikā, with Rahu’s vedha from Viśākhā (May–Oct 2031); then Ketu’s vedha from Bharaṇī

My reading of the Sarvatobhadra. Three windows stand out:

  • August 2027 – April 2028: Ketu on the people’s nakṣatra, right after the eclipse in the same nakṣatra. This points to public distress, food and price pressures, and a crisis of trust in leadership.
  • May 2029 – January 2030: Rahu on the name of Bhārata. This points to a challenge to the nation’s identity: separatist voices, propaganda and foreign interference.
  • January – March 2031: Saturn and Ketu together in Kṛttikā, the nakṣatra of India’s ascendant. This is the single strongest vedha of the entire period. By the rules of this chakra, it is a time when the state itself is under maximum strain.

Both the Kūrma Chakra and India’s chart point to the same months.

The sky of Kurukṣetra and the sky of 2026–2032

The Mahābhārata is the only great war in our tradition whose sky is described in detail. The omens appear in two places:

  • Before the war: Karṇa, refusing Kṛṣṇa’s last offer of peace, describes the planets he sees (Udyoga Parva 143).
  • On the eve of battle: Vyāsa describes them to the blind king Dhṛtarāṣṭra (Bhīṣma Parva 3).

In Ganguli’s translation, they include:

“That fierce planet of great effulgence, Sanaischara (Saturn), is afflicting the constellation called Rohini. The planet Angaraka (Mars), wheeling … towards the constellation Jeshthya, approacheth towards Anuradhas … Rahu also approacheth towards the sun.” (Karṇa, Udyoga Parva 143)

“Mars wheeleth towards Magha and Vrihaspati (Jupiter) towards Sravana … A fierce comet riseth, afflicting the constellation Pusya … Both the Moon and the Sun are afflicting Rohini … The fierce planet (Rahu) hath taken up its position between the constellations Chitra and Swati … Those two blazing planets, viz., Vrihaspati and Sani, having approached the constellation called Visakha …” (Vyāsa, Bhīṣma Parva 3)

“I never knew that the day of new-moon would be on the thirteenth day from the first lunation … in course of the same month both the Moon and the Sun have undergone eclipses … Such strange eclipses, both lunar and solar, forebode a great slaughter.” (Vyāsa, Bhīṣma Parva 3)

A word on dating. Scholars have used these omens to fix the year of the war, and they disagree widely. At a colloquium of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, the proposals ranged from 3143 BCE to 1478 BCE: Narahari Achar’s simulation gave 3067 BCE, R.N. Iyengar 1478 BCE, and P.V. Holey 3143 BCE. The Purāṇic tradition places the war shortly before the start of Kali in 3102 BCE. The omens also do not all fit one moment: Saturn is in Rohiṇī in one passage, near Viśākhā in another, and approaching Bhaga (Pūrva Phalgunī) in a third. Many researchers think the text grew over centuries. So I do not read them as one horoscope of a single day. I read them as the epic’s own catalogue of the signs of a dharma-yuddha.

How many of these signs return in 2026–2032? I calculated each one:

Omen in the Mahābhārata In 2026–2032 (calculated) Match
Saturn afflicts Rohiṇī Saturn in Rohiṇī 7 Jul – 12 Dec 2030, 25 Mar – 16 Jul 2031, 5 Jan – 30 Mar 2032 Yes, the strongest parallel
The Sun and Moon afflict Rohiṇī Solar eclipse in Rohiṇī, 1 Jun 2030, five weeks before Saturn enters Rohiṇī Yes
Mars wheels towards Maghā Mars retrograde from Pūrva Phalgunī back through Maghā, 11 Jan – 2 Apr 2027 (in Maghā 1 Feb – 10 Mar) Yes
A comet afflicts Puṣya Ketu, the comet-planet (dhūmaketu), in Puṣya 15 Aug 2027 – 23 Apr 2028, right after the total solar eclipse in Puṣya on 2 Aug 2027. An actual comet cannot be forecast Yes, through Ketu
Rahu between Citrā and Svātī Rahu in Svātī Feb – Oct 2032, crossing into Citrā on 14 Oct 2032 Yes, at the close of the period
Jupiter towards Śravaṇa Jupiter enters Śravaṇa on 22 Dec 2032 Yes, just after the period
Jupiter and Saturn near Viśākhā Jupiter in Viśākhā Dec 2029 – Oct 2030, but Saturn stands opposite it (the Jupiter–Saturn opposition), not beside it Partial
Mars wheeling to Jyeṣṭhā and Anurādhā Mars passes through Anurādhā and Jyeṣṭhā in Oct–Nov 2027, Sep–Oct 2029 and Aug–Oct 2031, but moving directly, not wheeling Partial
Saturn approaches Bhaga (Pūrva Phalgunī) Saturn does not reach Leo in this period No
Two eclipses in one fortnight, with the new moon on the 13th day Eclipse pairs a fortnight apart occur in 2026, 2028, 2029, 2030 and 2032. The shortest (Jun 2029; Apr–May 2032) last 13.9 days, still 14 sunrises at Kurukṣetra No. The rarest omen does not return

My interpretation. Six of the ten signs return clearly, two partially, and two not at all. What matters more is where and when they return.

  • They fall on Kurukṣetra itself. The heaviest parallels, Saturn in Rohiṇī and the eclipse of Sun and Moon in Rohiṇī, fall in the Kūrma Chakra’s Centre. Varāhamihira names that division Kuru and Pāñcāla, the land where the Mahābhārata was fought, today’s Haryana and the Delhi region. The sky of 2030–31 repeats the Kurukṣetra omens over the Kurukṣetra land. This is why I read 2030–31 as the decisive test for the seat of power in India.
  • They come in the same order as the story. First Mars wheels through Maghā, the nakṣatra of thrones and ancestors (early 2027). The Mahābhārata began as a quarrel over the throne of Hastināpura, a dispute of succession and inheritance. Then Ketu, the comet, sits in Puṣya, the star of Bṛhaspati, the teacher (2027–28). In the epic the great teachers, Bhīṣma, Droṇa and Kṛpa, stood on the side of adharma out of duty and debt. This is the moral failure of elders and institutions. Last, Saturn comes to Rohiṇī, the star of Prajāpati, of crops, progeny and generations (2030–32). At Kurukṣetra almost an entire generation was destroyed.
  • The rarest omen is missing. The thirteen-day fortnight with two eclipses was, in Vyāsa’s own words, something he had never known, the sign of “a great slaughter”. It does not occur in 2026–2032. In my reading this is important: the sky of our time carries the tension of Kurukṣetra, but not its final seal. The war of these years is not fated to become a war of annihilation.

The real lesson of the Mahābhārata omens. The omens were not spoken after the war, as a record. They were spoken before it, as a warning to those who could still choose. Karṇa saw them and still went to war. Vyāsa showed them to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, who could still have stopped his son, and he did not. Kṛṣṇa himself went as a peace envoy and asked for only five villages. The planets described the danger; it was the refusal of the powerful to choose dharma that made the war. The same is true now. The signs of 2027–2032 are a call to leaders, institutions and each of us to choose restraint, truth and peace while the choice is still open.

War, catastrophe and civil unrest: bringing the indications together

Readers ask me directly: will there be a third world war? Will India face civil war? I will answer as plainly as the method allows. Astrology shows pressures and periods, not fixed events. Human choices, diplomacy and prayer can soften what the planets indicate. With that understanding, here is how the separate techniques converge.

Window What converges World India Intensity (my assessment)
Nov 2026 – Apr 2027 Jupiter in gaṇḍānta and atichāra; Jupiter, Ketu and Mars in Maghā; Mars retrograde in Leo; Uranus on India’s ascendant; Mars–Rahu antardaśā Crises of leadership and legitimacy; sudden flare-ups Security incidents; tension in the south-east (Bengal, Odisha, Andhra coast); bold, unexpected policy turns Moderate to high
Jun 2027 – Apr 2028 Saturn debilitated in Aries; Mars opposite Saturn (29 Aug 2027); eclipse in Puṣya (2 Aug 2027); Ketu in Puṣya; Rahu conjunct Pluto (Nov 2027); Saturn in the Kūrma north-east Arms build-up, nationalism, maritime and technological rivalry Kashmir and the China frontier; public distress over prices and food; flood and cyclone risk in the East High
Jan 2028 – Mar 2029 Saturn square Pluto (Jun 2028 – Mar 2029), the first square of the 2020 cycle; Mars conjunct Saturn in Aśvinī (1 May 2028); India’s Mars–Saturn antardaśā; Pluto opposite India’s Mercury; Rahu moving into the Kūrma west The most dangerous window for wider war between major powers: confrontation, sanctions, proxy wars, possibly direct clashes Highest risk of armed conflict on the western and north-eastern fronts; terrorism; economic strain High to very high
May 2029 – Jan 2030 Rahu in Mūla (vedha on “Bhārata”); total lunar eclipse in Mūla on the node (26 Jun 2029); Rahu square Neptune; Jupiter opposite Saturn begins (Dec 2029) Propaganda and information war; ideological conflict A challenge to national identity; separatist pressure; unrest in the West (Punjab–Pakistan belt) Moderate to high
Mar 2030 – Mar 2031 Saturn on India’s ascendant and natal Rahu; Saturn and Ketu together in Kṛttikā (strongest Sarvatobhadra vedha); Ketu conjunct Uranus (20 May 2030); Sun with Saturn in Kṛttikā (20 May 2030); eclipses in the Kūrma Centre; Jupiter conjunct Rahu with a total solar eclipse (24–25 Nov 2030); Mars–Ketu antardaśā Financial shock; a possible biological or health emergency (Jupiter–Rahu in Scorpio); disasters The heaviest internal pressure on the Indian state in this period: political crisis at the Centre, mass agitation, Centre–state friction, extreme heat and fire (May–June 2030) Very high
Jul 2031 – Dec 2032 Uranus enters Gemini (its last two visits were 1863–70 and 1947–54); Saturn conjunct Uranus with Mars in Mṛgaśirā (Jun 2032); Pluto opposite India’s 1947 Saturn–Pluto; India’s Sāḍe Sātī and Rahu mahādaśā begin; Rahu in the Kūrma south-west Restructuring of the world order around technology; conflict in West Asia and at sea Borders and the 1947 settlement revisited; transition of leadership and direction High

A third world war? The classical signatures of the two world wars were Saturn conjunct Pluto (1914), and Saturn in Aries followed by Saturn conjunct Uranus (1939–1942). In 2027–2032 these patterns return, but separately rather than together:

  • Saturn in Aries, 2027–2030.
  • The Saturn–Pluto square, 2028–29.
  • Saturn conjunct Uranus, together with Uranus in Gemini, 2031–32.

My reading is that the period carries a real and serious risk of wider war, highest in 2028–29 and again in 2031–32. It will most likely take the form of several regional wars, proxy conflicts and confrontations between nuclear-armed powers, rather than a single declared world war. I do not see in the chart the certainty that 1914 and 1939 showed in hindsight. The Kurukṣetra omens point the same way: they return in 2027–28 and 2030–32, but the rarest of them, the thirteen-day fortnight of two eclipses, does not. But I would not call the risk small.

Civil war in India? I do not see a full civil war in India’s chart. What I do see clearly is severe internal turmoil in 2030–31: Saturn and Ketu on India’s ascendant, the Kūrma Centre under Ketu, Saturn and five eclipses, and the strongest Sarvatobhadra vedha on India’s ascendant nakṣatra. This points to a political and constitutional crisis, large-scale agitation and Centre–state conflict, a test of the Union rather than its breakdown. The Jupiter–Saturn opposition of the same years makes it a turning point: what was built since 2020 either consolidates or is overturned.

Other countries at risk of internal conflict. By the Kūrma Chakra, the west and north-west divisions (Rahu, 2026–2030) point to Pakistan and the Afghan belt, and the south-west (Rahu and four eclipses, 2030–2032) to Sindh and West Asia. The north-east division, which Varāhamihira names as Cīna, carries Saturn in 2027–2029, a strain on China’s frontiers and internal stability. Beyond the subcontinent, Uranus returns in 2027–28 to where it stood at the founding of the United States in 1776. Its two previous returns came in 1861, the Civil War, and 1944, the Second World War, so the outer-planet cycles point to deep internal division there too.

Catastrophes. The pattern of past cycles is instructive. The Saturn–Neptune conjunction of 1917 was followed by the 1918 pandemic, and the Saturn–Pluto conjunction of 2020 coincided with COVID-19. For 2026–2032 the indicators are these:

  • Epidemic or biological risk: after the Saturn–Neptune conjunction of 2026, and especially around Jupiter–Rahu in Scorpio, November 2030.
  • Earthquakes and sudden ruptures: Ketu conjunct Uranus in the earth sign Taurus, May 2030. In my 2015 eclipse study, earthquake risk was highest in the weeks after eclipses.
  • Floods and cyclones in the East: the eclipses of 2027–2029.
  • Extreme heat and fire: Saturn with the Sun in Kṛttikā, May 2030. This continues the trend already visible in the record heat of 2024.

Not only darkness. The same years carry Uranus’s trines and sextiles: breakthroughs in medicine, energy and science. Jupiter in Cancer (2026–27), exalted and passing over India’s Moon, is protective for India’s people and economy. Every hard window above is also a window in which wise leadership, preparedness and dharma can turn danger into renewal.

Will Kali Yuga end in 2026–2032?

This is the question readers ask me most. The frameworks compared in my study of Kali Yuga give three answers:

  • The Bhāgavatam gives Kali 432,000 years, of which only about 5,127 have passed in 2026 (counting from 3102 BCE).
  • Sri Yukteswar placed us in an ascending Dvāpara.
  • Bibhu Dev Misra’s model places the end of Kali around 2025.

A passage often quoted from the Brahma-vaivarta Purāṇa speaks of 5,000 sinful years followed by a golden period of 10,000 years. Its text is disputed, but by that count we would have just crossed the threshold.

The Bhāgavatam also gives an astronomical sign for the coming of Satya-yuga:

yadā candraś ca sūryaś ca tathā tiṣya-bṛhaspatī
eka-rāśau sameṣyanti bhaviṣyati tadā kṛtam

“When the moon, the sun and Bṛhaspati are together in Karkaṭa, and all three enter the lunar mansion Puṣyā together, at that moment the age of Satya (Kṛta) will begin.” (SB 12.2.24)

I calculated this sign for the whole period:

  • Jupiter was in Puṣya from 19 June to 19 August 2026.
  • On 12 August 2026, the Moon met Jupiter in Puṣya, all three bodies were in Cancer, and that same day there was a solar eclipse. But the Sun had already moved into Āśleṣā, so the strict condition was missed by a few degrees.
  • From 2026 to 2032, Sun, Moon and Jupiter are never all in Puṣya together. The next time this happens is 31 July 2038.

Because Jupiter returns to Puṣya every twelve years, this alignment repeats from time to time; it cannot be a single date for the end of an age. I read it as the śāstra saying where Satya begins: in Puṣya, nourishment, when the mind (Moon), the soul (Sun) and wisdom (Bṛhaspati) stand together in the heart (Cancer).

My conclusion: 2026–2032 does not end Kali Yuga. It is the period in which Kali perfects its own instrument, the machine. The symptoms of SB 12.2 and 12.3 will become more visible, not less. But the same scripture gives the one great quality of this age: that simply by chanting the names of Kṛṣṇa one can become free from material bondage (SB 12.3.51). A golden period, if it comes, is not something the sky will deliver on a date. It begins in the households and hearts that keep nāma, sādhanā and seva while the machines rise.

What we can do in these years

  • Rahu in Capricorn and Sagittarius (2026–2030): keep a weekly digital fast (Saturday or Ekādaśī), and verify teachers and teachings by their lineage, not their following.
  • Ketu in Cancer (2026–2028): protect and serve mothers, elders and the home kitchen. Serving elders is the direct remedy for the verse “men will no longer protect their elderly parents”.
  • Saturn in Aries (2027–2030): serve labourers and the helpless. Recite the Daśaratha-kṛta Śani Stotra on Saturdays, and avoid aggression in speech and business.
  • Jupiter with Rahu (November 2030): guard your savings and your faith from those who sell both. Read the Bhāgavatam daily.
  • The machine years (2031–2032): use the machine, but let the body work and the mind be still each day. As I wrote in 2018, “why physical works would be so much important you will soon forget at that age.” Do not forget it.

Note: this is a Medinī Jyotiṣa reading of planetary cycles, offered for reflection and preparation, not certainty. Dates are calculated in the sidereal (Lahiri) zodiac with mean nodes.
