Understanding Saturn Part 1- Sadesati and Therapeutic, Puranic story behind the lord of karma

What are Karamas ?

According to Hinduism God is fair and humans have a free will to choose good or bad, if he choose good action, cause will be good, if he choose bad, cause will be bad and collectively decide what is hidden in your destiny. Here we are Referencing to our day to day life Karmas (3rd from 4th house – 6th House and 6th lord – Karamas which are originated from our thoughts and are done practically via 10th house) which are free to do by our own Conscious mind.

In General Practice stored desires should be seen through natural Karka sign (Aquarius) & 4th house (Karka of mind) and therefore, ultimately gives clues for the consequences of Karamas (good or bad – in our continuous next birth) according to their Karma in the past.

Karma initiates the entire cycle of cause and effect (i.e., the cycle called Sansara – Venus (Maya) Jivatma (Soul – Sun) cannot attain moksha (salvation) until the accumulated (Pra-rabdha) Karmas are completely exhausted by consuming them.

Karma is like a seed, most of the times Karma does not fructify immediately after the seed is sown.

We produce numerous Karmic seeds by our own actions { via Speech, thoughts and actions , so we should have to see whole chart in compositely.Simply check 10th from Mercury – for all the actions done via our Speech and conscious brain , i.e if you have 10th from Mercury is Mars – it Will produce a harsh speaker or quiet arrogant and rude speaker so directly or indirectly our Speech is playing a part of our karmas,10th from Moon – for all the actions done and initiated by our thoughts , i.e 10th from Moon – Jupiter will produce a pious person healer, very thoughtful, very knowledgeable or Spiritual motivator by directly influencing to the thoughts of the native and other people around them }.

Bhagavad Gita says: Mysterious is the path of action (karma)” The Law of Karma is inscrutable.” It is difficult to say what sort of karmas will cause cancer and whether the fruit that you enjoy now is the result of one karma or a combination of several karmas. It is difficult to tell whether the fruit that you enjoy now is from the karma in the current birth or is it from the karmas in previous births (Sanchita karma).

Ripe karmas can produce fruits in the same birth under proper circumstances.

Karma is the principle of cause and effect, action and reaction, total cosmic justice and personal responsibility. It is very logical: what you sow is what you reap in exact and precise measure (dispensed by the Divine according to the Cosmic principles.) Karma is as predictable as the laws of gravity: what is done to you is the net result of what you have done to others.

He who hurts others, has already hurt himself in the future. The most important unpredictable aspect of Law of Karma is the “Delivery” (or consequences) that are controlled by the Divine.

Karma begins to propel you as Soul on a personal journey through the universe. Karma ends when you have perfected yourself in art of doing Karma without attachment and desires, purely in selfless form.

The ability to do Karma without attachment (without expectation of Karma-phala) can be attained by perfecting oneself on the path to the Divine by following various yogas as i have read in Bhagwad geeta –

In our Day to day life Lord Shani Dev Keeps an eye on our ripe and ongoing karamas to let us understand what actually are our karamas and how important they plays major role in our life. It’s the sum total of all 4 karamas every human being take birth based on his all accumulated karamas. If he had done bad prarabdha in past birth he has to pay back in any case in any birth that purely depends on the wish of the divine principle, when he has to pay back, we cannot move away from that but we can justify those karamas by doing good karamas in our ongoing life.Only one’s good karma can burn the odd one karamas done in bad. Seed house of all the ongoing karama is 10th house and lord saturn plays a major role in understanding every sort of karama in one’s life.

Astrologically, Check 10th house from Saturn
– for all the actions we do in day to day tasks in every moment or every seconds – via desire, aversion, love, hatred, happiness, etc. Benefic/Malefic in 10th from Saturn will undoubtedly produce, a positive or negative result, sooner or later when it come, according to the nature of the seed of action or Karama, if not in this life, then in some future life. 4th house and moon generates desires for those karamas but actions depends on 10th house.

But first we need to understand who is Shani-Dev and how he balances all the karmic actions in any individual’s life.

In Sanskrit Saturn is called Shani or Shana-ish-chara (” The slow mover – The Manda Gati ” )- ” Shane -Shane (one who walks slowly) “,Astronomically, only saturn has the capability to stay for much longer period in any zodiac sign because of his slow movement, it takes him about two and a half years to coverup a zodiacal sign or so to pass through each constellation of the sidereal zodiac.

In the Linga Purana it is said that Lord Shani-Dev (Saturn) was born from the solar deity Rudra. The Markandeya Purana states that Saturn is the son of the Sun god by his wife Chaya (shadow) .Saturn is cold and dry because of its  internal core structure made of, Internally he is pure and satwik but externally in language of jyotish he is considered as tamasik  in nature (Being straight forward and anger in nature). Being in slow movement he is considered as (lethargic) but in actual reality he isn’t, its due to slow walk he take time to reach the destination point and it has deep history too and curse of of his other mother sandhya, he is an elderly and wise planet. His sight is considered as bad, and he is said to be “malefic amongst the malefic but only for those who are doing or indulged in bac karmic actions in any life.

Astrological Significance

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

It is said that Saturn can destroys the house it aspects but in actual reality it only gives challenges regarding that house where it aspects, thus if it is a placed in malefic or in an enemy sign (but exceptional are always there if it is positioned in the seventh house, where it receives directional strength, Saturn will be a blissful for native) results will be different, and when it is placed in friendly or neutral sign it used to flourish that house with its saturnine  quality and when it aspects or conjoins result will be too depending on the sign and house placement. When well placed it gives its natives integrity, wisdom, spirituality, fame, patience, ability to lead, authority, long life, organisational abilities, sincerity, honesty, love of justice and awareness of right and wrong.

When it is ill placed with enemy planet or in house where Ashtakavrga strength is weak it can brings native  to miseries, sorrow, delay, obstruction, disappointment, disputes, dejection, difficulties but  that too has some lessons regarding that house for filtering the karmic seeds. Saturnine natives are defensive, nervous and secretive but very much honest, responsible and loyal. In Mundane world, Saturn rules the direction of west,Saturday is its day, black is its colour and Blue sapphire is the gemstone of Saturn. In Vedic Numerology Saturn rules number 8.

History from Indian Scriptures

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

According to legends and scriptures , Saturn was born to Sun and Chaya, also known as Swarna. During the time of Saturn’s birth, Sun fell severely ill due to Saturn’s inauspicious aspect when he opened his eyes. Hence, there have always been disputes between the father and son (Sun-Saturn Aspect).

According to  other Hindu Puranas (scriptures), Shani is considered to be a son of Surya (Sun) and Chhaya (shadow). His brother is Yamaraj and sister is Yamuna. His color is considered to be same as an Indraneel Mani, also known as Neelam (Blue Sapphire).

There are many different stories regarding birth of Shani Dev. Foremost and accepted is the one in the ancient ‘Skanda Purana’ which is as follows.

” God Surya was married to Vishwakarama Kanya Sandhya.

Sandhya could not tolerate the radiance of God Surya. She used to feel that by doing penance she could increase her brilliance. Or, by the power of her penance, she could diminish the glare of God Surya. But for God Surya, she was a spouse worshipping wife. From God Surya, she had three children. One was Vaivastahva Manu. The second was Yama Raj. And the third was Yamuna. Sandhya loved her children very much. But, she was very upset with the radiance of God Surya. One day, she thought that she would separate from God Surya, go to her parents’ home and undertake great penance. And if there was opposition, she would go far away to a lonely and undertake great penance.

By strength of her penance, Sandhya created a ‘Chaya’ (shadow) of herself and named her Suvarna. And, and then the shadow of herself became Suvarna. After handing over the children to Chaya, Sandhya told her that Chaya would thereafter play the role of womanhood and nurse her three children. She told her if any problem arose, she should call her and she would come rushing to her. But she cautioned her that she must remember that she was Chaya, not Sandhya, and nobody should know this difference.

Sandhya hander over her responsibilities to Chaya and went away to her parents’ place. She went home and told her father that she could not stand the radiance of God Surya. And therefore, without telling her husband she had come away. Listening to this, her father scolded her very much and told her that without being called, if the daughter returns home, both her and her father would be cursed. He told her to go back to her home immediately. Then, Sandhya began to worry that if she went back, what would happen to the responsibilities which she had given to Chaya. Where would Chaya go?

And their secret would be exposed. So, Sandhya went to the dense jungles in Uttar Kurukshetra and took repose there.

She was fearful of her safety in the jungle because of her youthfulness and beauty. And she changed her form into that of a mare so that none could recognize her and started her penance. Elsewhere, the union of God Surya and Chaya begot three children. God Surya and Chaya were happy with each other. Surya never doubted anything. The children of Chaya were Manu, God Shani and Putri Bhadra (Tapti).”

” As per the second story, the creation of God Shani was the result of Maharishi Kashyap’s great ‘yagna’. When God Shani was in the womb of Chaya, Shiv Bhaktini Chaya was so engrossed in penance of God Shiva that she did not care for her food even.

She prayed so intensely during her penance that the prayers had a profound influence on the child in her womb. As a result of such a great penance of Chaya, without food and shade in the blazing sun, the complexion of God Shani became black. When God Shani was born, Surya was surprised to see his dark complexion. He began to doubt Chaya. He insulted Chaya by saying that this was not his son.

From birth itself, God Shani had inherited the great powers of his mother’s penance.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

He saw that his father was insulting his mother. He saw his father with a cruel gaze. As a result his father’s body was charred black. The horses of God Surya’s chariot stopped. The chariot would not move. Worried, God Surya called out to God Shiva. God Shiva advised God Surya and explained to him about what had happened. That is, because of him the respect of mother and child had been tarnished and insulted. God Surya accepted his fault and apologized. And regained his earlier glorious looks and the power of his chariot’s horses. Since then, God Shani became a good son to his father and mother and an ardent disciple of God Shiva.

According to other scriptures and legendaries as per Brahma Purana, Saturn was totally devoted to Lord Krishna and was mesmerised by him. Seeing this inclination, Sun married Saturn to Chitra rath’s daughter. Saturn’s wife was extremely strong, powerful and modest. The wife of Saturn is Param Tejasvi and one day she went to him to request a son. But Shani Dev was busy meditating and praying to Lord Krishna.

After waiting a long time, his wife got agitated and cursed Shani that wherever, and whoever he sees will get destroyed.Hence, she cursed Saturn saying that anyone seen by him would be totally destroyed because of these facts we called Saturn as Impotent and can destroy anyone by its aspect.

Saturn tried to convince her and she eventually accepted her mistake. But, she could not take back the curse. So, Saturn started looking downwards as he didn’t want anyone to get hurt. This causes Shani to keep his head down all the time.”

This is the mythology behind the harmful drishti (aspect) of Shani.

Vedic Astrological Importance

According to Vedic Astrology, Saturn is considered as beneficial in the house it occupies, but harmful to the houses which it aspects, it is not harmful it only teaches spiritual and mundane lessons out of those houses, those houses are only Challenges and learning of current life.

Shani aspects 3rd, 7th and 10th house and covers 270 degree of orbital distance  angle and you can imagine how power magnetic influence of Saturn would be from the one it occupies.

Shani hates actions such as fraud, deceit, telling lies, consuming alcohol, gambling, staying unclean, animal cruelty, and disrespect of God, parents or elders.

If Shani occupies a favorable position in a birth chart then that person progresses in several aspects of life. That person is hardworking, fair in dealings and justice-loving. His/her social standing is also very good and that person does not suffer from any major ailments. On the other hand, if Shani is not positioned well in a chart, then damage to the house, fires, debt, disputes and loss of wealth and property will occur.

Early defects in teeth and eyes are also the effects of bad Shani positioning. The movements of Saturn, also known as the “Great Malefic,” used to be observed with fear and came with warnings passed from the astrologer to client about pending shortages, bad luck, great loss or punishing circumstances.

Saturn’s gift is the pressure that keeps us focused on our own path. It’s seriousness, like the sign it rules, Capricorn, comes from knowing that some goals require us to plod through dread to generate more inner discipline. Jupiter balances this out faith, optimism and trust that all the hard work will pay off.

Saturn doesn’t promise success, but by laying out the steps, and sticking to the path despite the distractions and doubts, you start to gain Saturn-approved mastery regardless of the outcome. It is the path to unshakable self-esteem.

Saturn’s influence may seem heavy and limiting, but that is the nature of the physical realm. When you toss up your hands and claim to be overwhelmed, inert, depressed, someone else has to be the authority in your life. This authority can be given to a boss, father, spouse, teacher, friend, or even a punishing voice inside your head. Once you’ve been humbled-humiliated enough, you might decide to pull yourself up and be your own boss.

The sign and house position of your Saturn shows where these life dramas will likely take place.Whatever are the apprehensions attached with this planet, Saturn is not the planet to be feared of. After all, a success gained after winning over obstacles is the truly satisfying one, accompanied by a deeper, and eternal knowledge about life. And that is the invaluable reward Shani imparts in our destinies.

Prajapati and Yam are believed to be Saturn’s Adhidevta and Pratyadhidevta respectively.

Saturn belongs to Lord Krishna’s caste, rides a vulture and a chariot made of iron.Saturn is also known by many different names like Asit, Aarki, Chhayatmaj, Mand, Shanaishchar, Suryaputra, Ravij, Pangu and Saur, Bhaskari.

According to Vedic astrology, Saturn is the Karak planet for the 6th, 8th and 10th house , Along with this, it is the Karak planet for detachment.

Saturn is also the Karak planet for coal, iron, brinjals, black or blue clothes, Udat dal, black grapes and jamun.

It is considered to be a Karak planet for almost all blue coloured things.Saturn is often associated with ligaments and stomach. Being a Karak planet for detachment, Saturn should be strong in the Kundali in order to achieve success.Saturn can also be associated with sculpting, service, farmer, labor class etc.Saturn is connected with the age and longevity of an individual. He gives long life if placed favorably in horoscope.

In spite of his bad name, Saturn is actually considered as a teacher. He behaves like a teacher, who punishes the students when they err and rewards them for their good deeds.Saturn is also the planet of justice, behaves like judge and gives justice depending upon the deeds of a person. The person who commits sin and bad karma’s are rewarded results accordingly.

Saturn rules over bones. All the large bones in the body of legs are governed by Saturn. Saturn, as per his nature, gives long-term diseases. Such diseases are long termed and hardly curable. So a person has to bear with the long illness.A person under influence of Saturn has to work hard in life. Saturn represents labor class who work die hard to earn a little livelihood. Land and all the products beneath earth are governed by Saturn. As such, all the mining items are ruled by him. Iron is his metal and his color is black/ blue. Zodiac sings which Saturn governs are Capricorn and Aquarius. He is exalted in Libra and debilitated in Aries. His mool-trikona sign is Aquarius.

Saturn believes in discipline and strictness and never likes chaos and disobeys. In Hindu Astrology, Saturn has great significance. People are afraid of this planet due to his strictness and discipline. The slow transit of this planet offers two important common periods namely Sadhe-Sati and Dhaiya. Every person undergoes the period of Sadhe-Sati and Dhaiya many a times in his life. Sadhe-Sati is a period when Saturn transits the twelfth and second house of the natal Moon. Similarly, if Saturn is placed fourth and eight from the natal moon, period of Dhaiya takes place. Period of Sadhe-Sati is seven and a half year and period of Dhaiya is two and a half year.

These two periods are considered very difficult time in a native’s life. He has to face many hardship and problems in life and gets no respite from any circle. Astrologically, speaking, this is the time when a person experiences enlightenment while going through the hard time.

By suffering hardship, a person is balancing his sins. Here, we can understand the difference in the nature of Mars and Saturn. Hardship faced by a person under the influence of Mars can make him a dacoit or thief. But, this is not the case with Saturn. In such circumstances, the Saturn will turn a person towards spirituality and forces him to think what is the cause of his misery i.e. bad deeds are responsible of his present situation. Slowly he becomes pious.

Why Saturn Never enters into Rohini Star 4th Pada while transiting in taurus sign ? – Historic insight of saturn transit in Rohini Nakashtra based on Padma puran.

In Brihat Samhita of Varahmihira author explained many of exponential principals while predicting natural catastrophes symptoms and most are readily manual for today’s researchers for highlighting cause and impact of sun-spots, planetary movement overs different Nakashtras mandalas for understanding Earthquakes, Rainfall, Drought and famines etc. As we already know why Varahmihira was one of an eminent astrologer, astronomer and Mathematician in the era of Vikrama aditya, interpreted many of incidents for saving the kingdom from miseries. He was one of an excellent interpreter in analysing and understanding the language of nature but irony is today’s modern discoverers completely ignoring this ancient art of nature for understanding its language.

Varahmihira in around 412 A.D quoted and opined that formation of Sun Spot usually brings Famine in the land and gives huge magnet storms in earth.this was found to be the case during the famine of 1876-77.

The great famine of 1876 (also the Southern India famine of 1876–78 or the Madras famine of 1877) was a famine in India that began in 1876 and affected south and southwestern India (Madras, Mysore, Hyderabad, and Bombay) for a period of two years. In its second year famine also spread north to some regions of the Central Provinces and the North-Western Provinces, and to a small area in the Punjab. The famine ultimately covered an area of 257,000 square miles (670,000 km) and caused distress to a population totaling 58,500,000.The death toll from this famine is estimated to be in the range of 5.5 million people.

From above all conditions we can conclude our Hindu astronomers were not wrong on interpreting nature language i.e impact of Sun Spots , Solar & lunar eclipse , planetary moments, weather uncertainness, rains , floods and sudden catastrophes.

It is well known fact that all india observe anxiously the course of the moon with respect to the four stars of 10th constellation when the sun is in the sign of Aquarius from “10th feb to March 10th”, with a hope of future agricultural prospects of the land , the market price of food grains is once lowered or raised according as the moon’s course lies to the south of the course stars or more and more to the north of the southernmost star.

It was also stated in ancient treaties that if the moon should Pass to the north of all the four stars the world would be at an end.

It is very much evident in scientific language as per what our modern astronomers moon will never pass to the north of all the four stars but in 1876 the moon course was lay between the north-most star and the one next to it. So we can assert our ancients treaties on reading nature languages aren’t wrong.

Now coming to Saturn course, according to our ancient Hindu astronomers if Saturn should enters the constellation of Rohini (4th pada) the world would be at an end.

The story belongs from during the era of Maharaja dasratha’s , one of astronomer form his court announced to the prince the dreaded entry of Saturn into the said constellation that the prince once flew in the air and stood before Saturn in his orbit resolved to stop this course ; that Saturn , pleased with the prince’s boldness , promised never more to enter the circle.

There is complete reference in uttrakhand section of Padma purana where lord shiva is explaining to Rishi Narda about the role of Saturn for both mundane as well as for individual horoscopes during Saturn course to taurus, when it was in Kritika (10 Degree) about to enter Rohini Nakashtra.

King Dasaratha was warned that this would lead to terrible famine and also indicates sign of war.

King dashratha reached “Shani Yuga” and he told to saturn if he enters Rohini constellation all would be destroyed , Dashratha asked to Saturn to save the world from the agony of wars and famine. Dashratha Paid Respect and praised him to ask for boon , Saturn was very happy with Dashratha gesture , somehow Dashratha saved as seeing his boldness in front of him. Dashratha recited ” Neel Shani Stotra” to propitiate Saturn as advised of sages and praised Saturn with verses. Saturn was much impressed and told dashratha to ask for boon . Dashratha requested him never to do ” Shakat Bhedan” to which Saturn Consented.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

In the Book “Shani Shaman” it was well written about Saturn and King Dashratha and descriptions of ” Rhone Shakta Bhedan Yoga” Which means entry of Saturn in Rohini Nakashtra will causes Terrible Famine for 12 years”

This was the whole story behind Saturn entry in Rohini Nakashtra.

Modern Astronomical fact shown that ordinarily Saturn will never enter the said circle , a circumstance which shows that the story is simply intended to cover an astronomical truth. it is well known that recently Saturn approached the circle to within a degree from it but did not enter it.

It is well known that recently Saturn approached the circle to within a degree from it but did not enter it.

So, we can ascertain that our ancient Hindu astronomers are wise in interpreting , observing and tabulation of the phenomena of nature.

There are lots of effects seen for Saturn entry in Taurus in recent many years which are mentioned below :
1) when Saturn entered Taurus on 12th May 1912 and Stayed there till 1914 , while it was Rohini Nakashtra from 11 August 1912 to 3 May 1914 , 1st World War started in November 29 , 1913 to May 1914.

2) India Rise of nationalism establishment of Hindi association for freedom of India in USA Portland in May 1913 and publication of first issue of Ghadar November 1913.

Secrets of Saturn transit : A moral story, Saturn transit in Zodiac of Jupiter – Lessons of Life and time – Transit of Saturn in Guru Zodiac for 2.5 hours.

Saturn transit in Zodiac of Jupiter – Lessons of Life and time – Transit of Saturn in Guru Zodiac for 2.5 hours.
After King Vikram Aditya Learned lesson of his life from the Wrath of the greatest planet Saturn, he received boon too.

Later King said to shani Dev , ‘I only wish that you will have mercy and not give any more trouble to the mankind. I have suffered a lot but rest of the people cannot bear suffering the way I suffered.

That’s the only thing I am asking as a boon from you, Shanidev!

Shanidev said, ’I may have troubled you a lot, but you should see how much more trouble I caused to Gurudev. As compared to Gurudev’s trouble, your trouble will look insignificant.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Listen also to the stories about how I troubled gods and the demons.’One morning, I bowed down to Gurudev. Then I requested to him with my folded hands, ’Please accept me in your zodiac sign for next seven and half years.’ So, Gurudev said, ‘Please do not come into my zodiac sign at all.’ Then I told him, ‘You do not like me, and you want to avoid me.

In fact, no body wants me! So please let me be with you for at least five years, or (perhaps) for at least two and half years’ But Gurudev still refused me.

So, I told him boldly, ‘One should respect Gurudev and not trouble him, since Gurudev protects like a mother! Those who do not respect Gurudev will surely go to abyss (To the bottom).

So, I bowed down to Gurudev and requested him, ‘Ask me anything as I am pleased with you!’ So Gurudev said to me again, ‘I am asking you not to bother me!’ So I was pleased with

him and said, ‘I will be in your zodiac sign for only fifteen hours (seven and half ‘Prahars’) and you cannot refuse me now!’ So finely, Gurudev agreed that Shanidev could be in his

zodiac sign for two and half hours. Gurudev thought and boasted that he would spend this period of two and half hours just by taking bath in the river and then praying the gods ( This prayer is called “Sandhya” by The Marathi poet Tatyaji Mahapati ) so Shanidev would be helpless and there would be no harm to him! Then Shanidev knew what Gurudev was thinking. So Shanidev decided to show his miraculous power.

As it was the right time, for Shani, Guru became eager to take a bath in the river Ganga. Guru was then under the shadow of Shani and Guru’s appearance changed.

Shanidev appeared as a monk and offered Guru two cantaloupe fruits. Gurudev gladly accepted those two cantaloupe fruits, put them in his bag and gave the monk two coins in return. And, Gurudev kept on going forward towards a city.

It so happened that day, the prince and the minister’s son of that city had gone for hunting and did not return home for lunch. More than two hours passed and still there was no trace of the prince and the minister’s son.

So, King Bhrugu sent his servants to search for them beyond the borders of the city. The servants saw Guru in the Brahmin’s dress with the bag containing two cantaloupe fruits.

That time Shanidev turned those fruits into two human heads. The king’s servants saw Guru, the Brahmin and asked him, ‘What do you have in your bag?’ So the Brahmin (Guru) said, ‘I have two fruits that I will eat them later.’ The servants said, ‘But, there is blood dripping from your bag. So, we don’t care whether you are a Brahmin or a low caste person.

Show us immediately what is in your bag.’ As soon as Guru saw that indeed there was blood on his bag, he was scared. The servants snatched the bag from the Brahmin and opened to see that there were two heads belonging to the missing prince and his friend.

So they scolded the Brahmin, ‘You do not have remorse

in killing these two kids mercilessly like a cruel demon. You have committed this heinous act, unworthy for a Brahmin.’

So they shackled the Brahmin and while beating him brought in front of King Bhrugu. When King Bhrugu heard the news about his son, he fainted and said, ‘Oh God! I lost my only son.

This Brahmin who killed my son is like a death messenger. So he must be punished by the death penalty and must be executed by hanging him on the sharp pointed iron pillar out side the city limits immediately.’

There was lot of commotion when the news about the prince’s death spread in the palace of King Bhrugu; it is difficult to write the details of the commotion for the fear of expanding this story. Any way, the prince’s wife decided to leap into fire out of grief as per the custom of those days. And she was prepared to do this self-immolation (sati, an act of self-sacrifice to burn in the pyre).

Mean while the servants took the Brahmin to the sharp pointed iron pillar for the execution. The Brahmin became restless and could not think any thing but his bad luck. He requested the servants, ‘Please wait a while for the execution. I will give you ten thousand rupees if, you wait for couple of hours.’

The servants felt compassion when they heard the Brahmin’s plea and decided to wait for couple of hours. By this time the limit of two and half hours set by Shanidev was over. The prince and his companion came riding the horse where the execution was about to take place. They knew what might have happened so they ordered the servants not to execute the Brahmin and bring him back to the king.

The Brahmin blessed the king and then he explained him everything (about the events). The king felt sorry and said, ‘I would have committed a great crime by giving your execution

order without knowing the full details. I would be the greatest sinner due to the ignorance and the ego of my royal power (Rajmad). So please forgive me.’

And he started to cry. ‘ Then he honored Gurudev by giving him and other Brahmins feast with gifts of clothes and ornaments. So Guru said that this happened due to the curse of Shanidev. Then he opened his bag and indeed there were two cantaloupes.

Then Shanidev came near Gurudev and asked him how it went so far. So Guru replied,’ In just two and half hours, you have ruined me. I cannot imagine what would have happened if you had full seven and half years to ruin me! Though I am the highest-ranking planet, you have indeed obliged me. In fact, you are the greatest planet.

However, whatever happened, happened for good! So please do not trouble any body any more.’

So Shani said, ‘One should not brag and blow his own horns. I will trouble the person who brags about himself. Gurudev, you boasted and so I had to act like this. Please forgive me for my act.’
