Journey of Vedic Astrology begins from ancient to modern, a practice as ancient as human civilization itself, has been utilized by various cultures to seek guidance and understanding from the stars and planets. Dating back thousands of years, astrology has roots in India, Egypt, Mesopotamia & Babylon  where the ancient were among the first to develop a system linking celestial events to terrestrial occurrences beginning from Treta Yuga. This profound connection between the cosmos and human affairs has persisted, evolving into the sophisticated astrological frameworks we recognize today.

A fundamental aspect of astrology is the zodiac & Nakashtras, a belt of the sky divided into twelve equal parts, each associated with a constellation and a specific time of the year. These zodiac signs—Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces—play a crucial role in astrological interpretations. Each sign encompasses unique traits and characteristics, influencing the personalities and behaviors of individuals born under them.

Complementing the zodiac signs are the twelve houses, each representing different life areas such as career, relationships, and personal growth. The placement of planets within these houses at the time of one’s birth forms a birth chart or natal chart, which astrologers meticulously analyze to gain insights into a person’s innate tendencies and potential life path.

The movements of planets—referred to as transits—are another cornerstone of astrology. As planets traverse the sky, their positions relative to an individual’s birth chart can signify periods of challenge, opportunity, and transformation. For instance, a retrograde phase of Mercury is often linked to communication mishaps, prompting caution and introspection.

In contemporary times, astrology serves as a valuable tool for personal insight and growth. By interpreting birth charts, individuals can better understand their strengths, challenges, and cosmic influences guiding their lives. This self-awareness fosters personal development, helping people navigate their paths with greater clarity and purpose.

Jyotisha (or Jyotishyam from Sanskrit jyotiṣa, from jyótis- "light, heavenly body") is the traditional Hindu system of astrology, also known as Hindu astrology, Nepalese shastra, Indian astrology, and more recently Vedic astrology. The term Hindu astrology has been in use as the English equivalent of Jyotiṣa since the early 19th century, whereas Vedic astrology is a relatively recent term, entering common usage in the 1980s with self-help publications on Āyurveda or Yoga. Vedanga Jyotisha is one of the earliest texts about astronomy within the Vedas. However, some authors have claimed that the horoscopic astrology in the Indian subcontinent came from Hellenistic influences, post-dating the Vedic period. In the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, only electional astrology, omens, dreams and physiognomy are used.

Jyotiṣa is one of the Vedāṅga, the six auxiliary disciplines used to support Vedic rituals. Early jyotiṣa is concerned with the preparation of a calendar to fix the date of sacrificial rituals.Nothing is written on planets. There are mentions of eclipse causing "demons" in the Atharvaveda and Chāndogya Upaniṣad, the Chāndogya mentioning Rāhu. In fact the term graha, which is now taken to mean planet, originally meant demon. The Ṛigveda also mentions an eclipse causing demon, Svarbhānu, however the specific term of "graha" becomes applied to Svarbhānu in the later Mahābhārata and Rāmāyaṇa.
